Family Biking In The Cherry Season

 ‘I am cycling on a beautiful sunny day. I can see around me green hills covered by vineyards, large orchards and curious faces of the villagers. They’re probably thinking what I am doing there. It’s just a leisure bike trip, a perfect way to enjoy the end of my weekend. It’s great to get away from the noisy and dusty city. Suddenly I stop. What do I see? I am standing in front of a garden with a cherry tree, luring me with his red shiny small pebbles. I ask the permission of the owner and he’s quite pleased to see me climbing a ladder to pick some great fresh cherries. I am happy like a kid. I continue my tour and visit a beautiful wooden monastery and right at the end of my trip I enter a manor-museum and I get to see how the rich landlords used to live a century ago. This is what I call an impressive combination of culture, tradition and natural flavours…’

We will meet in Urlati, only 25 km away from Ploiesti and 85 km away from Bucharest. The address is Valea Bobului Str., no. 20, at the hotel Casa Colinelor. The gathering time is 10:30.

What do we do:

- visiting an old traditional manor-museum

- visiting a nice wooden monastery

- cherry picking from the trees

- additionally, we can have lunch in a garden surrounded by vineyards

What shall we have with us:
- bike & helmet

- at least 0.5l of water
- rain coat / sun cream

- a small backpack

- smile upon the face

- Difficulty level: easy - like eating a cherry

- Terrain type: asphalt (60%), dirt road (40%)

- Date: during the fruit season (cherries can be substituted as well with apricots, peaches or grapes)

- Start and end point: Urlati, 85 km away from Bucharest

- Start time: 11:00

- End time: 16:00

How to reach Urlati

By car: After 55 km of driving from Bucharest to Ploiesti on E60 road, before reaching the gas station Lukoil in Barcanesti, turn right and follow the signs towards Buzau. After 30 km you will reach Albesti, turn left and arrive in Urlati in 5 km.

By train: Get the train P 5021 from Bucharest Main Station (07:49), or from Ploiesti Sud (09:10) and reach Tomsani (09:48). You will be picked up by us. If you choose to come by the train please contact the organisers (see details below).
